Chrissie McLaughlin

An Artist living the tropical Far North Queensland

Chrissie is an Australian artist currently living between the Daintree Rainforest National Park & Oak Beach in the FNQ. She credits a lifetime of travel and the pursuit of an artistic lifestyle as her constant school of learning.

As inspiration, Chrissie uses her life in the tropics, her memories of travel and experiences around the world.

Chrissie's main body of work has consisted mostly of commercial and private commissions, exhibiting in several group exhibitions and galleries. Her paintings have been sold nationally and internationally.

Chrissie has also worked as visual artist in many different media

Chrissie's words

"My affection for FNQ is evident! I paint with watercolour out in the field. The compositions are interpretations of the rainforest and north Queensland tropical area. I love to capture the dreamlike state of light and colour that can be witnessed when the light plays in strange ways, in this magical part of the world."

Current Work

Chrissie is having fun creating her own paint from pigments that she grinds down by hand and then mixes it to her own consistency and hue. The pigment colour depth and purity best interpret the visual idea of her work.

She also paints watercolours in the field to capture composition, light, and colour to take back to the studio for oil and acrylic paintings. During this process, she discovered that watercolour paintings embrace structural simplicity that only watercolour can in its primitive form.

Chrissie co-founded in the '90s a cooperative gallery space called "Painters and Collectors" - which supported and promoted young artist living and working in the area.

Today she is the founder and curator of Art In Transit Gallery Port Douglas. The gallery created Cooperatively for Queensland's top professional artist's. The Gallery is financed and staffed by the artists.

Chrissie currently runs artist workshops from her guest house in Cape Tribulation in the Daintree National park.
